When I think about race in America, it makes me so damn frustrated—as much as angry. Because I feel like being nice to everyone, including people of other races, should be low hanging fruit.

How hard is it to be nice? Yet, white abuse of black people is not only too common, it's often so overtly cruel that I can hardly believe it.

It's beyond my comprehension how that police officer stood on the neck of George Floyd—what the hell was that officer thinking?

What I think about, and dream about, is a story of something that actually happened during the Arab Spring. A group of Muslims saw a bunch of Coptic Christians about to be violently attacked by a mob of religious fanatics. The Muslims surrounded the Christians, protecting them from that mob.

Sadly, although the Egyptian revolt brought down the dictator Mubarak, religious extremists took control and now they have a new dictator.

But that one incident of transcendent goodness demonstrates that hope is possible.

Look, being nice and genuinely caring about people and not treating anyone as "other" SHOULD be simple.

We have problems which are inherently tough—and I'm thinking right now about climate collapse. (Certain) white people?—stop being such asses! I believe that racist violence is something even Jesus would have trouble forgiving.

Let's love one another—and work together on our common challenges.
