We have much to talk about, and an audience of decision-makers who will not listen. We demand justice. We demand care and respect for all people especially those who are struggling and suffering. We demand a speedy end to the use of fossil fuels and an all out effort to replace them with clean energy.
We demand a stable climate and a healthy Earth for our children.
How do we get there? What should we say? To whom? And what should we do? These are the issues we face as the climate crisis grows even deadlier, as failed leaders work to INCREASE the supply and use of fossil fuels, as fascism and violence flourishes across the planet. We feel helpless and afraid.
We are stuck. We feel hopeless.
It’s time to get up off the mat and fight. We’ve been fooled. The secret of the (allegedly) powerful was exposed centuries ago. Most of us just haven’t gotten the message. Etienne de La Boetie wrote “The Politics of Obedience” in the 1500s. He pointed out that despots (and other powerful people) have no power whatever except for the powers delegated to them by our cooperation and obedience. Without that, a so-called powerful man is just another person— like you or me.
