Getting rid of the theocrats is only the beginning
We are seeing some pretty bad things happen in the world, including right wing lunatics taking charge of the UK and Italy. Oddly, in both those cases, the elevated lunatics are women.
But they don’t represent women any more than, say, Amy Coney Barrett does. True women leaders are emerging, however, in Iran and elsewhere. Decades of oppression have generated a response, a determined revolutionary demand for justice. Uncontrollable unrest has taken hold of the country.
Guns can wound and kill. They also expose the shooters as violent assholes who cannot continue to hold power. Women in the streets are leading and will be supported by men and others who care about and love them. Because Iran isn’t that religious of a country — only the thugs in charge are. And their religion is actually their excuse to be in control. That’s what formal religion is in much of the world — a tool for vicious fools to control the powerless.
But in Iran, the powerless have discovered their power. The jig is up. Just as it was in the Soviet Union, and just as it will be elsewhere and perhaps, everywhere.
The great secret is this: the powerful only have the power we allow them. Yes, we fear their guns. But they only have the power of the support of their followers. Because Khamenei…
