Why Do We Live This Way?

It feels like we have no choice. That’s the way the people in charge want you to feel. Don’t! We DO have a choice. Let’s exercise it.

Think about your life. You have problems. You need more money, and you are trying to figure out ways to earn more. Always. Forever.

There is never enough.

What about your relationships? Either you are alone and looking for a “significant other” or you have a “significant other” and you are struggling balancing that relationship with the rest of your life.

You have troubles. In a way, that’s not too bad. Having troubles is one way to know you are still alive!

And yet.

Routines Can Be Soothing or Drudgery or Torture

The dominant routine in people’s lives is usually work. This is especially true if we still go to the office—and employers are increasingly demanding that we return.

Commuting is, for most people, very unpleasant. Our nerves can get jangled BEFORE we get to work, even before the first tedious meeting. And we have a second commute at the end of the day.

But the dominant feature of the days of our lives—usually 5 of every 7 days—is the work itself. Now what you do at work varies considerably. If you have a “good” job, you do…
