I get a lot of “that’s nice” but it’ll never happen. I understand and actually appreciate that viewpoint. But it’s mistaken — if we choose to act. Otherwise, it’s self-fulfilling.
Strangely, many of my favorite people here on Medium are pessimists and doomers. Since I am fighting to wake up people to change (and save) the world, it may seem odd that I feel such affection for those who see my position as naive.
The thing is: I can genuinely see their position, too. It’s not dumb or flip or even necessarily wrong. They have not changed my mind, but I relate to them all the same. In part, it’s because I share their dark sense of humor. The feeling that, it’s a complete mess and we’re all doomed, but lets enjoy a snarky laugh together. I feel the way they do. I just don’t believe the same things.
I love to laugh. I love to laugh even when it might be in bad taste. I also love to laugh at myself. Who doesn’t love to laugh? The dour people, I suppose. I never trust the dour people, because even when they are correct, they are approaching things the wrong way.
Damned Either Way. But What If We Choose “None of the Above”?
Here’s the way it looks to me.
