Why We Should Begin Rescuing the Earth in Twos and Threes

I’m an introvert — or at least was one. I do a lot alone, very comfortably.

In my drive to save the climate and awaken people to our common humanity, I’ve been working alone in Philadelphia.

I find that challenging. But I do it, because it’s far too important to neglect. That said, I know I could do better — a lot better — if I had one or two other dedicated people with whom to work in town.

We think of Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King and Caeser Chavez and Susan B. Anthony as loners, and as unique special individuals and, in our minds we see them alone standing up for justice.

But they all worked with others, in groups, bravely speaking up while others were silent— forcefully — and inspiring others with their moral courage. And those others, less famous or even forgotten, were just as courageous and just as important.

Even Greta Thunberg, who is autistic and is used to being alone, acknowledges the importance of getting an accomplice. She’s said that going from a movement of one and growing to two was the hardest part. She said that, by comparison, the next million was easy.
