Yes. The focus on the personal carbon footprint was heavily promoted by the fossil fuel industry—originally mostly British Petroleum—to evade THEIR responsibility as the primary cause of the crisis. It's largely worked up to this very day.
Fossil fuels continue unabated and C02 levels and emissions are at record highs.
But the now fully visible and increasingly fierce climate catastrophe's are moving the needle. It gives US—ordinary sane and caring people who love our children and Nature—an opportunity to save ourselves and everyone we love. And especially future generations.
While the oil companies urge us to bail furiously to keep the sinking ship from going down, they continue to widen the gigantic breech in the hull. How's THAT for a metaphor?! ;-)
In any case, there is now a small but growing movement, The Saners Movement, that realizes it is literally insane to destroy the planet you live on. Or to allow others to do that. Or to cooperate with those others.
We are planning to use Gandhian tactics—an approach with a proven record of success—to end climate abuse, put climate scientists in charge of a worldwide emergency program, and make an all out effort to fix what's broken.
