You don’t need to convince them of anything. You can simply tell them the truth: the conclusion of climate scientists, decades ago, is that our heavy use of fossil fuels is changing the climate and creating conditions that are hostile to humans and animals: including but not limited to increasingly frequent and severe wildfires, heatwaves, storms and flooding.

Over time, the actual outcome proved to be worse than originally predicted.

Even non-scientists can easily see something is seriously wrong. We’ve had 100+ degrees in Portland, Oregon—and IN SIBERIA. Heatwaves have overwhelmed power grids, flooding has devastated our cities.

So, yeah. Our choice is simple. Stop burning fossil fuels, switch quickly and completely to clean renewable energy—or give up and tell all of our grandchildren that due to our failure, they are doomed to try to survive on a planet that makes today’s disasters look like the Garden of Eden.
