I love Ministry of the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. I believe it’s the most important novel of the 21st century.
But I think we need cli-fi that shows futures in which the masses of people, angry at the failure of their leaders and worried about their children, take control and work with climate scientists to fix things. As unlikely as this sounds, I believe it is the most credible scenario for our species to survive this dismal self-inflicted catastrophe.
How can we possibly get through this if we don’t even imagine doing so? If every story is about “important people”? We can all see what happens when we wait for business and government to save us.
I’ve written several micro-stories showing ordinary people saving the Earth from climate collapse. But we need real writers producing substantial work doing this.
