Jessica—it sure feels the way you describe it. But I believe there is a latent force for good, a big force, and powerful one.

I believe that millions of people, probably billions, that we haven't yet heard from actually love their children and care about preserving the climate of our beautiful Earth. I believe these people are fearful and angry and frustrated and don't know what to do.

I believe these people feel helpless. In 2000, after they selected a passionate climate advocate for president, they watched in horror as the SCOTUS put the fossil fuel a-hole into the Oval Office. They watched in horror in 2016, after they selected a woman as president, a brutal ignorant misogynist was handed control of the presidency.

They are watching now as gun proliferation and mass murder is made easier, as a Supreme Court that includes rapists and sexual harrassers takes away a woman's right to control her own body. They will look in horror at the upcoming ruling taking away the EPA's power to protect us against the existential crisis of climate collapse.

BUT—if these people had something to do, something that would be visible and effective, and if they fully realized that THEY ARE THE MAJORITY and their numbers alone could easily overwhelm their oppressors, then they COULD and WOULD act.

I believe we can awaken that latent power and that our upcoming difficult summer is the opportunity to do so. This summer looks to be hot and dry and we may see climate disasters that far exceed what we have seen before. People will be scared and angry at the government's failure to do anything about it.

Right now we are being told that people only care about gas prices. I don't believe that. I believe a wall of flame behind their homes, threatening their lives and their children and everything they own will make them forget about gas prices, and political parties, and ideologies.

If we speak loud and clear and give people something to do, something that will overwhelm the status quo and force proper action, this crisis can be met. I'm planning on doing my part. I'm not simply an optimist—I don't belief this will fix itself. But, I believe with planning, effort and timing, good can defeat evil.
